About IPFF

Family Farms are facing increasing challenges across Canada. In the prairie region it is not uncommon for small family farmers to hold down two jobs to support their farming operation. Many family farms are being sold to larger corporate entities and families are leaving rural communities. This trend not only affects food security but also decimates rural communities. As a result, a group of families in the Sask Valley area have formed a group under the name of “Innovative Prairie Farm Families”. The major goal of this project is to help families establish small grass-based livestock operations that will provide healthy eating alternatives and another source of farm income. Direct marketing to consumers is an important part of making this project work. The families that make up this project group have come together to support each other in their efforts to remain on the farm.

Mission

1. To build relationships between urban and rural residents by offering consumers the opportunity to purchase healthy food directly from producers

2. To conserve and protect the environment by helping to establish grass-based livestock enterprises that are ecologically sustainable and contribute to healthy soil and air

3. To improve the economic security of family farms.
